28 Weeks

I spent the first half of the week meeting with realtors, talking with our relocation counselor, and filling out endless amounts of paperwork.  Then on Thursday, we found out that we aren't moving after all - at least not right now.  It's a long story...

Emery continues to wiggle all around and scoot backwards.  One morning, she scooted back into some furniture and got stuck.  It was pretty funny!

It is a daily battle to tame that wild hair!

I will leave you with a cute video of bath time.

The View From Up Here

As school started up this week, it was odd to be home instead of up at school.  I'm a teacher, right?  Well not this year, at least.  I struggle with that decision sometimes because I really do like teaching.

But days like today, I'm reminded how lucky I am to be able to stay at home.  We had a great thunderstorm this morning, and I had the freedom to sit on my front porch with this as my view.

E watched the heavy rain with amazement (she hasn't seen much of it in her life).  We (ok, I) talked all about rain and thunder and lightning.

I know she won't remember it...

...but I will.

27 Weeks

(Since 20 weeks, E has been fascinated with the sign, so taking these pictures has been difficult.  Today it was impossible, so I had to change the sign placement!)

I was very busy this week getting the house ready to put on the market, so I didn't take a lot of pictures.

I did get some cute ones of E with her buddy Kayla.

I also took some of E rolling around on her mat.

She looked like a contortionist with some of the moves she was doing this week!

I did take lots of pictures today since it was Abraham's 28th birthday!

Happy Birthday to our favorite husband and daddy!  Hope you all had a great week, happy back to school to all my teacher friends!

K Family News

If you know us very well, you know we've wanted to move back to Central Texas for some time.  Well, it's happening!  We didn't think it was going to happen this year, but doors started opening, and on Monday Abraham accepted a position in Austin!

He leaves in a week and a half, but Emery and I will stay behind to sell the house (pray that this happens as quickly and painlessly as possible).

We will miss our friends and family in Houston, but we feel this is the right decision for our family, and we're excited to start a new chapter in our lives!

Oh and the picture is unrelated, but I don't like posts without pictures.

Official 6 Month Post

My sweet girl turned 6 months old on Saturday.  Seems like yesterday I looked like this:

40 weeks, 2 days (2-12-11)
E had her 6 month well visit today, and she had a great time playing with the baby in the mirror!

Height:  27.5" (92nd percentile)
Weight 17 lbs. 13 oz.  (76th percentile)

Everything looked good, except the doctor did refer us to a specialist to see if she needs a helmet.  Her flat spot has improved a little, but it's still there.

At 6 months, E takes 4 bottles a day (around 7 oz. each) and eats 2 solid meals.  For breakfast, she has rice cereal and a fruit, and for dinner, she has oatmeal and a veggie.

Bedtime is 8 p.m., and she usually sleeps until 6 or 7 a.m., sometimes waking once (twice on a bad night) for pacifier retrieval.

She sits up well by herself, but occasionally tumbles over.  She tries very hard to crawl, but can't get her arms and legs to work together.  She is overall a very happy baby and a blessing to us!

Baby Food: Carrots

I'm so behind on baby food blogging!  The K Family has been very busy - more on that this week!!!

Carrots were very easy to prepare, and I thought they were pretty tasty.  I washed and peeled them, cut them into chunks, steamed them for about 20-25 minutes, pureed in batches, and froze the puree in ice cube trays.

Dinner: Carrots and oatmeal

As usual, Emery was less than enthusiastic about trying a new food.

But in the end, she liked carrots!

26 Weeks

How has it been half a year already?  Before having E, people always told us time goes by much faster once you have kids.  We just nodded and smiled, but we've commented to each other about a million times lately that it is so true.

Here are some of the things Emery did this week:

*Tried to escape

She can't crawl yet, but she's definitely mobile and never stays where I put her!

*Rode in the grocery cart sans cart cover

I do most of my grocery shopping at HEB and was less than pleased to discover that our cart cover doesn't fit on their carts.

*Went to visit Miss Lori at her new apartment

*Practiced her reading skills

*Slept peacefully with her new seahorse

E's friend Hayden has one of these, and I've been eyeing it since he was born!  I finally got one for E, and I love it (and I think she does too).  It plays soothing lullabies and ocean sounds, and naps have been less of a fight since I bought it.

*Went for lots of walks

I've been trying to get out every morning to walk before it gets too hot.  It's still pretty warm and very humid, but it will have to do until the weather cools down.

*Made a mess in her room

Okay maybe it was me that made the mess.  I did a little closet reorganization in her room, so it had to get worse before it got better.

 *Did her exercises

*Practice looking pitiful

I think she's doing a pretty good job.

*Visited with Cousin G

It's been almost 2 months since we've seen her, and she's gotten so big!

Last but not least....drumroll please...Emery turned 6 months old!!!

We have her doctor's appointment on Tuesday, so I will do her official 6 months post then with more cute pictures and height/weight measurements.

Have a great week, and good luck to all my teacher friends who are going back to work!

Recipe ~ Creamy Cajun Chicken Pasta

This was delicious!  Good for you, not so much, but very yummy.  I found it on food.com (hasn't failed me yet) and decided to try it out.  Abraham raved about it, and it made yummy leftovers too!

Creamy Cajun Chicken Pasta

2 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into thin strips
4 ounces linguine, cooked al dente (really any pasta would work)
2 teaspoons cajun seasoning (I used 2 tablespoons because we like spicy)
2 tablespoons butter
1 thinly sliced green onion (I omitted)
1 -2 cup heavy whipping cream (I used 1)
2 tablespoons chopped sun-dried tomatoes (I didn't have any, so I used a can of diced tomatoes)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon dried basil
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

Directions:

1.  Place chicken and Cajun seasoning in a bowl and toss to coat.

2.  In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté chicken in butter or margarine until chicken is tender, about 5 to 7 minutes.

3.  Reduce heat add green onion, heavy cream, tomatoes, basil, salt, garlic powder, black pepper and heat through.

4.  Pour over hot linguine and toss with Parmesan cheese.

25 Weeks

Our week started off pretty dull, so mid-week I took E out to run some errands and kill some time shopping (with our eyes only, of course).  That turned out to be a bad idea because my wallet and car keys were stolen out of the cup holder on the stroller.  Talk about a panic when I realized that I had no money, no phone, and no way to get home!  (Note:  When I explained my situation to the employees at TWO different stores that shall remain nameless, I was told there was no phone I could use to call someone to come get me and my BABY!)

Thanks to the kindness of some strangers who let me borrow their phones and my handsome husband, Emery I made it home.  And I was extremely lucky that whoever stole my wallet ditched it (minus my cash, of course) and someone found it!  What a great ending to an otherwise miserable day.

E worked on sitting more this week and got much better.  She can sit unassisted for several minutes at a time.

(she was showing off her temper here!)

We made a last minute decision to visit Grandma and Grandpa D in San Marcos this weekend, and it was a nice getaway!  Grandma K and Solomon and Delilah even stopped by to visit on their way back to Houston. We also got to visit with Miss Candace who's a new Bobcat!

E was worn out from all the running around!

E's first visit to Garcia's (mommy's favorite hometown Mexican food - so much better than Herbert's)!

Here are some other pictures of my cutie:

(suction cup toys are AWESOME!)

I couldn't choose between these next pictures, so I added them all.  She just looked so cute - gotta love baby shoes!

Oh, and remember that time I said I like to mess with E's hair after her bath?  Yeah, I did it again...

Have a great week!!!
