First Birthday Party

I took a nice little blogging break!  It was mostly because it took me forever to comb through photos of Emery's party.  There were so many cute ones, and I had a hard time choosing.  Thanks to Miss Lori for taking pictures so I could enjoy the party!

The party started with eating/mingling/playing.

All the kids played so well together, and it was fun to watch!

They all came running crawling when I pulled out the puffs!

Next, we opened gifts.  Emery was one lucky little girl!

As usual, tissue paper was a big hit!

And she thought this musical card was the best thing ever!

Last, but not least, it was time to eat cake!

She thought the icing was pretty tasty, but wasn't too interested in the cake itself.

Overall, it was a great day to celebrate Emery's first year with family and friends!

Pinterest Project: Handprint Ornament

Do you Pinterest?  If not, you REALLY need to.  I love to just peruse Pinterest, but I have actually made some of the things I've found, so I thought I'd start sharing some of the ones I loved.

Yes, I know Christmas was almost two months ago.  But I couldn't share this before Christmas without ruining the surprise, and I just haven't gotten around to it since then!

Anyway, I thought this ornament was adorable, so I had to try it.

Here is my version:

It's hard to get a good picture that shows all the details, but it says Merry Christmas above the hand print and Emery 2011 below the hand print.

And here it is hanging on the tree!

Christmas will be here again before we know it, so it you want to try this for the holidays, there is a link under the original picture to the blog where I got the directions.  I made four, and it was not as easy as I thought it would be, but totally worth it!

For my version, I used:

Clear (slightly iridescent) glass ornaments
Clear embossing ink pad
Red glittery embossing powder
Fine tip red paint pen
Red ribbon
Q-tips and water to clean up edges
Wet wipes to completely wipe off the ink when I messed up!
Stove burner (to heat seal the embossing ink/powder)

To me, the hardest part was getting a good hand print because you can't just tell a 10 month old to place their hand neatly in a certain spot.  At first, I tried to place her hand where I wanted it, but it ended up looking like a big blob instead of a hand print.  I had the best luck holding the ornament slightly out of Emery's reach and letting her grab at it.  As soon as her hand touched it, I pulled it away before it got all smudgy.

Don't forget to do this next Christmas!  I love the one I made for myself, and the ones I gifted were big hits!

Birthday Week: Days 3-5

Birthday Week Day 3 was all about style!  Emery got some new clothes and her first pair of real shoes.

On Birthday Week Day 4, Emery had fun watching Daddy work in the front yard.

And she got some new books and bath toys.

Grandma and Grandpa D came to visit on Birthday Week Day 5, and Emery got a Little People Schoolhouse!

Emery had her birthday party on Day 6.  I still need to sort through the pictures, so I'll post those sometime this week.

For now, here is a peek at how cute she looked!

Have a great week!

Happy Valentine's Day

Yesterday was Emery's 2nd Valentine's Day!  It was also Day 2 of Birthday Week!

For breakfast, I made her egg-in-a-heart and yogurt with rasberry puree.  Yum!

She got all fancy in her dress from Grandma and Grandpa K and posed for a few pictures.

And then she got shots.  Ok so maybe Valentine's Day was a bad choice for her appointment!

It didn't slow her down much, though. She helped me pick out some Valentine's goodies for Daddy and stuff for her party this weekend.

Valentine's Day/Birthday Week Day 2 calls for some goodies, of course!

Emery seemed pleased with her haul.

After Emery went to bed, Abraham and I enjoyed Pei Wei takeout, champagne, and assorted goodies while watching TV.  I'd take that over dinner out with the crazies any day!

I hope you had as great of a V-Day as we did!

12 Months

Emery turned a year old yesterday!!!

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around that because I can still remember every little detail of my pregnancy, delivery, and the aftermath.

We went to her well-child visit today, so here are her stats.

Height: 30.75 inches
Weight:  22 pounds 6 ounces

With this birthday comes the transition from bottles to cups and from formula to whole cow's milk.  This is probably stressing me out more than it's bothering Emery, but I'll be glad when we've jumped this hurdle.

Also, I guess she got the memo about picky toddlers because she flat out refuses to eat things she used to love!

I forgot to mention it in the 52 week post, but Emery has been battling her first cold for the last week.  Boo!

Emery is a character.  She gets more and more personality each day, and she cracks me up.  She also cracks herself up, which in turn cracks me up.

She is always on the move, crawling, pulling up, and cruising.  She loves to walk while holding our hands, but she doesn't like for us to let go just yet!

She loves books.  Sometimes I think she must be up to no good because she gets too quiet, but when I check on her, she's flipping through a book.  I love it!

And she LOVES her Daddy!  Every evening, she perks up as soon as she hears the garage door open.  She crawls to the door, squeals, and bounces up and down until he picks her up.   I think the feeling is mutual!

I have decided we will make Emery's birthday a week long affair, so each day she will get special treats.

She started Day 1 of Birthday Week with a delicious breakfast: Peanut Butter and Banana Malt-O-Meal and yogurt with blueberries.

She also got her first cup of whole milk!

After breakfast, she got a new birthday book.

And for lunch, we met up with Daddy!

After dinner, she got a new toy!

Not a bad birthday, huh?

I love you, sweet girl, and I hope you are having a wonderful birthday week!
